fishy fishy

using the under the sea theme, i made a rock with a starfish for leanne, fishy bags for tunya, sukari, leanne, sunfish, goldfish, and angelfish. rigel and ming wah got fishy painted white mouse heads and there were also two blue heads with goldfish! a fishy extravaganza! ... pictured: baby do! taking inventory of the toys, leanne, leanne, tunya, fisher, fisher, rigel.

lee's theme of choice was just in time for shark week! in fact i sent in the photo of amanzi with her great white to the discovery channel just for fun and a few days later they picked their top fav's people had sent in and amanzi was #9! ... pictured: toys by lee, jahari, amanzi, amanzi, padang, leanne.

its my mouse!

earth bags and poppers, plus a special snow project! bags and poppers as needed for cats big and smaller. the bags got rhino hay for the lions and i saw a popper in the snow leopards enclosure. light to white is the color of choice for the snow leopards, so i made one plain white snoball and a white mouse heard with light blue swirls. this was the first time i had seen rigel get toy enrichments and he was silly with pleasure! sooooooo cute watching him having so much fun! ... pictured: toys by kim, rigel, rigel, rigel, rigel!

hootin' n hivin'

a special bowl for padang, owls on tree stumps and a bee on a hive were lee's imagination come to life for the big cats! they always love the scented hay, but this rhino face on jahari is hysterical! what fun! ... pictured: padang, jahari, amanzi and jahari, amanzi, leanne, leanne.

bone yard

in between the bears getting their enrichment toys, the lions got bones. big bones! leanne got a scented brightly painted ball with flowers and padang got a matching bowl with half a chicken! all courtesy of lee!

teddy bear day

keepers asked us to help with enrichments for the zoo's teddy bear day event. we had both started on cat crafts but with two days notice we were able to produce enough bear enrichment toys for both event days! i made some party bags (two grocery sized bags with mache paste between them to add extra reinforcement) with bears and flowers painted on them and some bear cut outs that could be adhered to the grizzly windows with honey or peanut butter. in this case it was honey! lee made some white mache balls with seven different colors, one chosen to represent each of our seven bears. ... pictured: kachina, kiona, ulu, wishbone, annie. ... we miss you little annie.

it was a big cat celebration on leanne's birthday when left over piglets made it to amanzi and jahari's yard and the keeper put out a picnic spread for padang on one of her blankets including left over bugs and a new brightly colored bowl! ... pictured: amanzi, jahari, amanzi, jahari, padang, padang.

leanne's birthday

july 10th marked leanne's 7th birthday and it was celebrated in style! with a custom made birthday cake, a candy shaped party favor, a mouse head pinata and her very own lunch box! ... pictured: cake plus bowl for padang by lee, baby do! w/mouse head and candy by kim, lunchbox by lee, leanne, leanne, leanne.

4th of july fun!

4th of july enrichments were a blast! my vision of super sized firecrackers for the big cats came to life, plus i added in some small red, white and blue polka doted bags for the fishing cats and snow leopards. lee got busy with some patriotic balls! ... pictured: firecrackers plus baby and bags, patriotic balls, sunfish, goldfish, jahari, amanzi, amanzi, padang, leanne.
